Unless you're a bona-fide British blue blood, Madonna or one of the Beckham soccerball clan, it's unlikely you can boast, "Hey plebs -- y'know, I stayed in a castle last night, huh?"

Well, to that roll call of riches, go ahead and add yours truly if you would: I've just joined the crenellated club by staying at New Zealand's finest -- Lanarch Castle in Dunedin.

A zoo orangutan who picked up a smoking habit by aping her observers has been forced to go cold turkey.

Malaysian authorities seized 20-year-old orangutan Shirley from her state-run zoo in the southern state of Johor last week, after she and several other animals were found to be living in what the authorities claimed were appalling conditions.

She has been transferred to Malacca Zoo, where zoo keepers will take a harder line toward her nicotine addiction. Shirley is expected to be sent to a wildlife center on Borneo island once her rehab is complete, reported the BBC.

Mumbai's Film City to open to tourists

Since 1977, Bollywood movies have been staged and filmed at 16 air-conditioned studios spread over 520 acres in a place called Film City, located in the northern Mumbai suburb of Goregaon.

Now the Maharashtra government thinks it's time to make Bollywood's office a state-of-the-art, one-stop-shop for filmmakers as well as a major tourist attraction.

Future tourists will have access to shoots and sets and there's a Bollywood museum also being planned on Film City premises.

London Heathrow Airport has topped the world's busiest airport list for the past 11 years, but the rank will certainly change when Beijing's Daxing airport opens.

Currently under construction, the new airport will be Beijing's third airport -- after Beijing Capital International Airport and the semi-military Nanyuan Airport -- and will occupy a total of 54 square kilometers with nine runways.

Thailand's western town of Kanchanaburi, already a popular tourist destination for war buffs thanks to the 1957 film "Bridge Over the River Kwai," is set for a tourism boost with the film adaptation of the bestselling non-fiction book, "The Railway Man."

British Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth has reportedly signed on to star in the lead role as former British army officer Eric Lomax, who was held prisoner by the Japanese Empire during World War II and forced to help build the infamous Thailand to Burma "death" railway.

Take a walk down almost any suburban Tokyo shopping street and you'll notice two kinds of stores in abundance -- hair salons and drugstores.

While the baffling amount of floor space devoted to the former has long been a fixture on the retail landscape, the spread of pharmacies in Japan is all about its aging, drug-hungry population.

To drugstores catering to a failing citizenry, we can now add the next logical step -- private mortuaries. At least, that's the logic the market appears to be suggesting in one part of the country.
