Mad Max IV rained out of Australian desert

Mad Max

Australia's most desolate film set in Broken Hill was meant to be the home to the next "Mad Max" movie, "Fury Road."

Amazingly, it's been flooded out.

After being postponed for a year after flooding rains swept across the desert plains, the film crew has now decided that the blossoming landscape is just too pretty for the film.

Wild flowers cover the Australian desert after a one-in-100-year rain event.

"The Mad Max landscape looks like Wales," director George Miller said in The Sydney Morning Herald. "There was a carpet of flowers on the location we were shooting on. There's no way it's going to brown off."

Thailand's Members of Parliament have elected Yingluck Shinawatra as prime minister, making the 44-year-old sister of ousted PM Thaksin Shinawatra the country's first female leader.

In the Friday morning vote, Yingluck received 296 "yes" votes and three "no" votes, while 197 MPs abstained.

Before Yingluck can officially assume the title, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej must endorse her in a separate ceremony, which media reports say is expected to take place in the next few days.

5 top Korean diet trends

Even though the largest sizes at most clothing stores in Seoul seem run equivalent to a U.S. size zero, Seoulites are constantly on the lookout for the newest-fangled ways to shed kilos and get that perfect body.

Less than a decade ago, the so-called "Denmark Diet" -- a two-week regimen heavy on protein and veggies and low on carbs –- made the rounds, and recently, more dieters have been jumping on the hot yoga bandwagon, willingly enduring intense sauna-like temperatures while holding painful poses.

Triceps and flip-flops: Gunung Rinjani’s porters

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Stepping out of our van at Sembalun village on the tropical island of Lombok, Indonesia, at the start of the climb up Gunung Rinjani, we are served banana pancakes and fresh pineapple by four short but muscular men.

They don't speak much English, but their calm demeanor and warm smiles make us feel welcome.

We quickly learn their names -- Hera, Nina, Edy and Beduk -- from our guide, Jay, and that they are the porters for our trek up Gunung Rinjani, Lombok's 3,726-meter active volcano, which last erupted in May 2010.

Motorbikes in Bangkok

It usually happens like this: you're tired of being squeezed into the train during rush hour, or stuck in a car during one of Bangkok's notorious traffic jams.

So you start toying with the idea of buying your own "motosai" aka motorbike.

It's easier than you might think, even if you're not a Thai national. If you have a work permit, the shop where you buy your machine will do the necessary paperwork for you.

But before you decide to go for it, here's a list of pros and cons.

Mumbai’s lexicon of love

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 02:57 PM PDT

So, you're new to Mumbai and have fallen in love with the idea of falling in love in Mumbai?

Who'd blame you? Between Blue Frog bar and the BPO you're conducting you've met Indian girls who make you sweat.

Familiarize yourself with the local language of love, a lexicon mash-up of Bollywood filmi meets Mumbai street "ishtyle". Not so much to use, as to amuse.

Make her laugh. She's yours.

Line lagaoing

If you've spent weeks stalking her on the 8.45 p.m. Bandra Fast train only to chat her up while you pretend to accidentally bump into her at Churchgate station, then my friend you are -- in Mumbai parlance -- "line lagaoing" her.

In actual terms it means throwing a line and then reeling in the hook.
