Longjing Village: Hangzhou’s ultimate green tea experience Posted: 26 Dec 2011 11:57 PM PST Show map at bottom of page If Marco Polo had traipsed through Hangzhou in a single day, he probably would've left the city remembering three things -- West Lake, beautiful women, and dragon well tea (龙井茶). Fast forward about 800 odd years and that still holds true. One of the most prized and expensive teas in China, dragon well green tea has a light yet unmistakable fragrance and calming taste. Known locally as Longjing, the best harvests are traditionally reserved for government officials and the wealthy elite. |

Bollywood movies that won't inspire you to travel Posted: 26 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST Show map at bottom of page Bollywood is a truly wondrous place. A mindset where suspension of disbelief isn't just expected of you, it is essential for your sanity and survival in these epic three-hour celluloid journeys. How else can a rational mind explain a happy couple teleporting from the fields of Punjab to the Swiss Alps, and then to Machu Picchu, all within the time it takes for them to reach a song's chorus line? Ah, but that's par for the course. What we're concerned with here is entire films being based in locations where you would never dream their protagonists belong. Presenting the most shameless, implausible whoring of location sets by Indian filmmakers in the last three years. |
Braidwood: A journey into Goldrush heritage Posted: 26 Dec 2011 11:57 AM PST Show map at bottom of page Four hours' drive south of Sydney, in the southern tablelands of New South Wales, Braidwood is unique as it's the first town listed as a historic entity by the NSW Heritage Office. Braidwood's heritage streetscape is a product of its 19th-century Goldrush -- when Chinese, American and colonial dreamers flocked to the town. The town is now experiencing a renaissance, bringing together western and eastern heritage for visitors. On the Kings Highway, halfway between Canberra and Batemans Bay on the NSW south coast, Braidwood has become a unique weekender from Sydney. Here is a journey into history -- and where to eat, drink, sleep, experience and play. |
