Thai floods

Thailand's two low-cost domestic airlines operating out of Don Muang –- Bangkok's secondary airport -- have halted operations there due to the floods.

Nok Air announced Tuesday afternoon that all flights from October 25-31 are cancelled. Any aircraft that were in the air at the time of the announcement were diverted to Bangkok's main airport, Suvarnabhumi International, which is still running as usual.

Cathay Pacific inflight menu

Cathay Pacific Airways is collaborating with Swire Hotels' top restaurants to bring a special inflight menu to their first and business class passengers.

It's the latest in the global airline industry's attempts to achieve the impossible: decent airplane food. Even Heston Blumenthal gave it a try as part of his "Mission Impossible" series.

From November 1, 2011 to January 2012, several dishes from the menus of Swire Hotels in Hong Kong and Beijing will be available aboard selected Cathay Pacific flights departing from Hong Kong.

Australian customs

Over the last week, travel agents have been calling for the federal government to intervene in the ongoing Qantas strikes.

But Julia Gillard and her crew have enough worries of their own.

Thai floods

Bangkok is bracing itself for the worst as floodwater continues to flow into the city, with runoff from the north leaving many roads in the city's Sai Mai, Don Muang, Lak Si and Bang Phlad districts flooded.

According to local media reports, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration says 4 billion cubic meters of floodwater from Ayutthaya is expected to reach the capital by Wednesday through the western areas of the city. The problem is, the city can only drain 400 million cubic meters per day, say officials.

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 05:00 PM PDT
