Sword-swallowing and an African princess at 'Taboo,' Macau's new cabaret Posted: 25 Jun 2012 11:45 PM PDT The poster for Macau's new show, "Taboo," depcits a pair of parted lips painted hot pink, with a nude woman posing inside. It's like a glammed-up version of the iconic red lips of "The Rocky Horror Show." And that's pretty much what we're expecting from "Taboo." More on CNNGo: 9 best places to drink in Macau, before and after gambling Franco Dragone's latest creation for the City of Dreams, "Taboo" promises to be "naughty and naughtier" and to shatter taboos. But it sounds more like Rocky Horror without the freakish characters and gender-bending -- we're left with a bunch of people dancing and singing in underwear. Yet, it's still worth the ticket price, which starts at HK$2,000. The acts are some of the best in the world. read more |
How to see the best of Singapore in two hours, free of charge Posted: 25 Jun 2012 11:22 PM PDT Despite Singapore's Changi Airport being consistently voted as one of the world's best in global polls, hanging out there on an extended layover is bound to get old after a while. For passengers stuck in transit for at least five hours, there's always the Free Singapore Tour. As the name suggests, the two-hour tour is free. It's been around since 1987, but airport officials have just launched an updated version that includes new attractions as well as a brand new night tour. The revamped Heritage Tour takes visitors on a ride past the usual "must see" attractions of the city: Singapore Flyer; Gardens by the Bay; Marina Bay Sands; Esplanade; Merlion Park; Colonial District; Chinatown; Little India; and the central business district. This one departs four times a day, at 9a.m., 11:30a.m., 2:30p.m. and 4p.m. read more |
Take it outside: Tokyo's top terrace cafes and bars Posted: 25 Jun 2012 11:13 PM PDT by Brandi Goode We all know it. Tokyo = big city, bright lights, chaotic streets teeming with people, and ... sunny outdoor terraces? Surely some mistake? In a city with more than 13 million inhabitants, a quiet sanctuary where you can do some quality people-watching or take in the view seems impossible -- but there are some genuinely excellent options if you know where to look. Cast your doubts aside and head for the great (really) outdoors, though. Japan's capital has a more-than-healthy spread of venues sporting European-standard al-fresco drinking and dining. Most have variable opening hours, but unless noted are generally up and running from around 11 a.m. to midnight. Here are 10 of the best: Hacienda del Cielo: for a tropical touchWonder how Hacienda del Cielo got its name? There are few things in life as satisfying as a tangy margarita on a balmy summer day and the Hacienda serves up a mix as mean as any. read more |
Travel makes you sexy, says new study Posted: 25 Jun 2012 08:39 PM PDT by Max Kim All the edifying and enriching benefits of travel are so yesterday. A new Intrepid Travel survey conducted via online matchmaking service RSVP.com.au says that travel ups your sex appeal. So here's looking at you, lonely singles. Now you know what to add to the "About You" entry on Facebook. Which stereotype are you?The survey, which sampled 882 single Australian adults, revealed that more than half of the respondents found people who listed "travel" on their dating profile more attractive. And nearly all (96 percent) of avid single travelers are on the prowl for an equally adventurous partner. Where the hell is Matt now? And what the hell is he up to? Posted: 25 Jun 2012 07:58 PM PDT In his continuing mission to turn Interwebbers into teary-eyed, loved-up, global people-huggers, Matt Harding, the world's most unapologetic bad dancer, has released his latest "Where the hell is Matt?" video. See it on YouTube here. It's been four years since his last video -- which has so far racked up more than 40 million views -- and apparently we just can't get enough of his elbow-swinging, knee-jerking antics. This time he once again makes use of a heart-string-tugging soundtrack, but sponsor of his last two vids, Stride gum, has stepped aside to let Matt go it alone. No problem. He has already cracked 2 million YouTube views having published the video just a few days ago. read more |
Unlimited flights for US$1,000 per month -- private jets come to the masses Posted: 25 Jun 2012 04:20 PM PDT by Hiufu Wong Wade Eyerly learned one thing from flying 27 days a month when he was former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's intelligence officer -- flying sucks. So, together with his pilot brother, he decided to put things right with his own airline. Out went the long, blood-pressure-rising queues, in came convenience and service. Best of all, for a monthly fee of US$1,000, members of his company -- Surf Air -- can fly as many times as they want. You read that right -- unlimited flights, for US$1,000 a month. Admittedly we're not talking Los Angeles to Tokyo. Not even Los Angeles to New York. read more |
