For some, it's a bunch of roses (never carnations); for others, a weekend break in a mountain cabin.

For others still, romance comes in the form of a cold beer on the couch and "Die Hard" on the TV. He kisses her in the end …

So to some extent romance is a subjective concept.

But there are some people for whom it's not just an act saved up for special occasions, it's a way of life, a never-ending journey, and they are forever trying to buy a ticket to your heart.

So here they are -- the world's most romantic people.

Baijiu, Champagne or Cava? Chinese drinkers mull new choices

There's nothing we love more about Shanghai than its ability to fit a new idea into any size nook. The well-appointed Alfie's by KEE is one example, located in the basement of a clothing store.

Another case is The Bubbles Bar, which opened last fall in the third-floor attic of Spanish restaurant El Patio.

The interesting thing about the 15-square-meter watering hole is its menu, which is solely dedicated to Cava, the Spanish equivalent to Champagne.

More precisely, the bar only serves one Cava brand, Freixenet, which is well-known for its advertising efforts with Antonio Banderas, Sharon Stone, Kim Bassinger, Shakira and others.

"This is the first Freixenet Cava bar in the world," says Gil Serra, 27, greater-China manager for Freixenet.

33 beautiful temples to enlightenment

There are some 900 traditional Buddhist temples in Korea -- and around 20,000 in total. A visit to any of these local places of worship -- many of them centuries-old -– can be a humbling, calming or uplifting experience.

Many of them can be found nestled in the countless mountains throughout the country, usually in locations believed to have the best pung-su (feng shui) of the area.

But despite the endlessly beautiful and endlessly numerous temples, even the most serious pilgrim need not visit all 900. The 33 temples below -- 33 as in Buddha's 33 steps to enlightenment -- might be enough to help you get your Zen on. 

1. Manggyeongsa (망경사)

The statue may be frozen, but the smile is still warm.

Manggyeongsa Temple is situated on Taebaek mountain, at an altitude of 1,460 meters.
